Cleveland Attractions

The northern Ohio city of Cleveland has more interesting and exciting attractions than many cities twice its size. Museums, science centers, sports stadiums – you name it, Cleveland’s got it. It’s no wonder a local saying is “Cleveland Rocks!”

One of the first stops for any newcomer is University Circle, home to many museums and performing arts centers. These include the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which recently opened a new planetarium; the Cleveland Museum of Art, whose collection features works by Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh; and Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra.

Attractions featuring science and technology are found throughout the city, including the New Center for Art & Technology and the popular NASA Glenn Research Center, which teaches visitors about NASA’s aerospace programs through interactive exhibits and artifacts. The Great Lakes Science Center shows kids and adults the importance of science and the local environment. The Center also features a six-story OMNIMAX Theater.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum receives a great deal of international attention – and it’s no wonder! The Hall houses the largest single collection of rock and roll artifacts in the world, including musical instruments, handwritten lyrics, stage props, childhood memorabilia, and rare recordings. The annual induction ceremony honors legendary figures of contemporary music, including Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and many more. However, if rock and roll isn’t your musical flavor, Cleveland is also home of the Polka Hall of Fame.

There’s something for sports fans as well – the Pro Football Hall of Fame, just over an hour away in Canton, OH. To see the players in action, head down to Cleveland Browns Stadium. If baseball’s more your style, watch the Cleveland Indians play at Jacobs Field, or NBA fans can see the Cleveland Cavaliers at Gund Arena.

Adventurous travelers will be thrilled to learn the area features not just one, but two theme parks less than an hour and a half away. Six Flags Worlds of Adventure is located in Aurora OH, and Cedar Point lies on the Lake Erie coastline in Sandusky, OH. Another popular family attraction is the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Rainforest, with over 3,000 animals and a two-story atrium, which simulates tropical rainforest conditions.
